Banaskantha District is one of the 33 such districts in the Indian State of Gujarat. The district has its headquarters for administration at Palanpur which is also the biggest city in the area. The district lies in the northeastern part of the State and derives its name from the West Banas River. The Ambaji Temple is a big tourist landmark in the zone. The population was mostly rural as of 2011 (86.70%) while the total area of the district is around 12703 square kilometres. It is Gujarat’s second-biggest district. The total population in 2011 was 3,120,506 people. The coordinates of the area are 24.3455° N, 71.7622° E. The languages spoken here are Hindi and Gujarati.
