Begusarai is the administrative headquarters for the district of Begusarai, one of the 38 districts in the Bihar State. It lies on the River Ganga’s northern bank in the Mithila Region. It is also a part of the Munger Division. The area lies at an elevation of 41 meters with a population estimated at 251,136 people as of the year 2011. Begusarai is driven by an agriculture-based economy. The area is known for its cultivation of jute, oilseeds, red chillies, potato and tomatoes. It also produces fruits like guava, litchi and mango.
