Chamoli is a leading district in the Indian State of Uttarakhand and is bordered by the Uttarakhand Districts of Bageshwar and Pithoragarh along with regions falling in Tibet. Almora lies southwards from the area. Chamoli is home to several tourist landmarks including the Valley of Flowers, Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath. The Chipko Movement first began here. The area is a part of the Garhwal Division and covers 8,030 square kilometers in all. The population of the area stood at 391,605 as of the year 2011. Hind is the official language spoken here. The coordinates of the area are 30.2937° N, 79.5603° E.
