Datia is the district headquarters of the District of Datia in the north-central part of the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh. Datia is an ancient town that was once stated in the Mahabharata and was ruled by King Dantavakra. The city lies 78 km away from Gwalior and is 18 km away from the tourist landmark Sonagiri, which is a Jain hill. The town is known for its cotton and grain production while being notable for handloom weaving too. Datia is also iconic for its seven-story up and down palace that was constructed in 1614 by Raja Vir Singh Deo. The total population of the area stood at 100,466 people in 2011. The language spoken here is Hindi. One of the biggest tourist landmarks here is the Pitambara Peeth. The coordinates of Datia are 25.6653° N, 78.4609° E.
