Thiruvarur is a leading municipality and town within Tamil Nadu and it is also the administrative headquarters for the District of Thiruvarur along with the Taluk of Thiruvarur. The Thyagaraja Temple is the famous landmark here along with several other landmarks and tourist attractions. Thiruvarur was once within the District of Thanjavur until the year 1991. The total area of the town is 10.47 square kilometers with the population estimated at 58,301 people as of the year 2011. The town was one of the capitals for the Chola Empire previously.
