Jammu is the winter capital for the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. It is also headquarters to the biggest city in the District of Jammu. It lies on the banks of the Tawi River. It covers an area of 240 square kilometres. It is also called the City of Temples. It is governed by the Jammu Municipal Corporation and also the Jammu Development Authority (JDA). The population of the city stands at 502,197 people as of 2011. The languages spoken here include Urdu, Dogri, Hindi, English and Punjabi. The Jammu and Kashmir coordinates are 32.73°N 74.87°E.
