The coordinates of the area are 12.9053°N and 80.1986°E. Tamil and English are mostly spoken here.

The Greater Chennai Corporation governs Perumbakkam. The popular areas of the locality are Nanmangalam Reserve Forest, Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Marina Beach, etc.
