The internal streets are diseased and improperly maintained. The public trash can needs to be properly maintained. Market areas frequently experience traffic jams on weekends and holidays. At night, the area appears to be uninhabited. Summertime is a time when water shortages are a factor.

The neighbourhood is bordered by several amenities, including lakes, temples, grocery stores, gyms, matriculation, CBSE schools, churches, and supermarkets. It is an important area because all North and South Chennai MTC buses are available at the bus stops that surround it. The police station close to the bus stop gives Keelkatalai extra significance.
