Rudraprayag is both a town and municipality of the district in Uttarakhand. It is one of the Panch Prayag with a confluence at Alakananda, where the river joins with Mandakini. Kedarnath is just 86km from Rudraprayag. The district is at 30.28°N 78.98°E with an elevation of 895 metres. But most parts of the district and Sangam have been severely damaged by the 2013 Uttarakhand floods.
The district has 9,313 people, among which 5,240 are males, and 4,073 are females. Among these, 95.16% of the population practice Hinduism, while others practice Sikhism, Christianity and Islam.
