Tirunelveli is also called Nellai and Tinnevelly and is a major city within the State of Tamil Nadu. It is also the administrative headquarters of the District of Tirunelveli. It is 700 km away from Chennai while being only 58 km away from Thoothukudi. It is 73 km away from Kanyakumari. Its twin city is named Palayamkottai which is also known as the Oxford of South India. The city is home to several famous monuments. The population of the area stood at 497,826 people as of the year 2011. The coordinates of Tirunelveli are 8°43′41.82″N 77°41′43.94″E.
