Solapur is a city in southwestern Maharashtra and shares its border with Karnataka. It is at WikiMiniAtlas17.68°N 75.92°E and shares borders with Osmanabad on the northeast and north and Ahmednagar on its north. Also, it has Kalaburagi district towards the southeast, Bijapur Districts in the south of Karnataka, and Sangli district in its south and southwest. Moreover, the Satara district is on the west, with Pune towards its northwest.
Spread over 98.67 square kilometres, it has 457 metres of elevation. The city has a 951119 population, of which 52% of males and 48% of females, the literacy rate going up to 83.88%. The city is in the 11th position as the most populated city in Maharashtra. Here, 73.13% are Marathi speakers, 9.28% are Kannada, 6.47% are Hindi speakers, with 4.49% Telegu and 3.94% are Urdu speakers as the first language.

The city is significant highway connectivity, with main routes connecting Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, and has a line to connect cities like Vijayapura and Kalaburga. The internal transport of the state is under Solapur Municipal Transport.
The Solapur railway station connects to major cities. Besides, Kurduvadi junction and Hotgi junction are also present in the district.
The nearest airport is Gulbarga Airport which is 90 km from Solapur. The Solapur airport is yet to be operational with regular flights.
Ambika Hospital, City Hospital, and CNS hospitals are some famous ones. Hirachand Nemchand College Of Commerce, Solapur, Walchand Institute Of Technology, and Solapur, Arts & Commerce College, Ardhnari Nateshwar Mahavidyalaya, and Bhagwant Institute Of Technology are renowned colleges.
