Mahim is in the neighbourhood of Mumbai. The name was taken from the ancient Sanskrit word Mahikavati meaning "miraculous". Other names for the area, historically are Mahimawati, Mejambu and Maijim. Mahim was the earlier form of islands that were gifted to the English King, King Charles II, as a wedding dowry for Catherine of Braganza, the Portuguese princess.
