Patan is towards the northern side of Gujarat and has been formed from parts of the Banaskantha and Mahesana districts. It is the district headquarter and has nine talukas. It is located at 20° 41′ to 23° 55′ north latitudes and towards east longitude of 71° 31′ to 72° 20′. Spread over 5600 square kilometers, the Banaskantha district is on the north-western part, the Kutch district is on the west, and the Desert of Kutch is towards the south and includes the Surendranagar district. It has Mahesana district towards the eastern part.
It has a total 1343734 population, speaking Gujarati in 524 villages. In this, there are 649337 female and 694397 male members.
