Shahdol is a city which is in the Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh. It is also its administrative headquarter, which is spread around 5671 square kilometers. As of the census of 2011, the district has an 86,681 population. In this, it has 6 urban local bodies and 391 gram panchayats. The district is in 23rd rank among other districts in the state. It has Anuppur in the southeastern part, Satna and Sidhi towards its north, and Umaria towards its west. The district is 110km from east to west and stretches 170km from north to south. It is between 22o 52’ N latitude to 25o 41’N latitude and 80o 10’Longitude to 82o 12’ E longitude.
Geographically, it is 6205 square kilometers, and its adjacent districts are Satna, Umaria, Anuppur, Rewa, and Dindori. The district has an elevation of 450 metres to 500 metres from sea level.
