Karur is the city of Karur District, situated 395 km Southwest of Chennai, in Tamil Nadu, India. The city is situated on the bank of rivers Amaravati, Kaveri, and Noyyal and has no major geological formation. 19% of the city is used for agriculture, and the major crops are rice, carton, oilseeds, sugar cane, coconut and banana, betel and mango. Its total area is nearly 53.26 sq. km. The climate here is a hot semi-arid type, where people get bulk rainfall during the summer months and a northeast monsoon during the winter months. The estimated population of Karur is 358,468, and its city coordinates are 10.95°N and 78.08°E. The commonly used languages in this part of the city are Tamil and English.
