Munger or Monghyr, as it was called earlier, is a leading twin city and municipality within Bihar. It is the administrative headquarters for the Division and District of Munger and was earlier one of the biggest Eastern Indian districts. It was within undivided Bengal during the rule of the Mughals and also the British Raj. It is one of the State’s biggest historical, cultural, political, commercial, and educational hubs, lying 180 km away from Patna and 480 km away from Kolkata. The twin city includes Munger and Jamalpur on the Ganges’ Southern Bank. The total area of Munger is 89 square kilometers while it lies at an elevation of 43 meters.
